But we don't.
So we're working on it.
Most of the literature I've read describes learners with Down syndrome as favoring a visual learning style. I think that's true for mine, but LC also favors musical and kinesthetic learning activities as well.
So, with that in mind, we came up with our latest learning tool...
Our colors book has a rhyme and corresponding pictures for nine colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black and white.
Red is an apple. Red is an apple.
Red says STOP. Red says STOP.
Here come little ladybugs. Here come little ladybugs.
Red on top. Red on top.
Tune: Are You Sleeping...
Most are rhymes that we found in other educational resources and tweaked to fit to the rhythm and notes of songs we knew. We had to write a couple from scratch. They aren't going to win any music awards, but they're functional.
There's also a colored area on the right side of each color spread that we use for interactive play, like matching snacks...
...or objects from around the house...
Since the squibs seem to be enjoying their book, we thought you might like one, too.
If you do, you'll need a 12 x 12 scrapbook for the book itself and colored strips of cardstock or construction paper for the top of each page. (I had the paper already and the scrapbook cost $5 at Hobby Lobby.)
We'll send you the rest if you follow 3 steps...
1. Make sure you're a formal follower of the blog.
2. Leave a comment that tells us your favorite color.***
3. Email us and ask for 'em. (Our email address is at the top of the blog on your right.)
Do those three things and we'll send you the files for 38 flashcards (designed to be printed on 4x6 photo paper wherever you get photos processed) and the lyrics and tunes for nine color songs.
And you DON'T have to have a card-carrying member of the Down syndrome club in your family to get a set. So share the link with anyone who might be able to put them to use.
I'll send the files out in one mass email on Friday morning, so send us an email before then if you'd like to be included in receiving a set.
***To add to the fun, if YOUR favorite color is the same as MY favorite color, I'll also send you a compressed file with 21 animals and their corresponding ASL signs...

CVS is currently having a 50 photos for $5 promotion that will end on May 16th, so this would give you a chance to take advantage of that offer if you'd like to over the weekend.
Happy Homemade Monday to you!
